Why Your Law Firm Needs a Strategy Before Investing in Marketing Tactics

Mar 25, 2025

A small firm with multiple practice areas called CMO2Go because they wanted to generate new business – strategically.

Our work together began with building a strategic marketing plan – what we call our “blueprint to build” process.

But it didn’t stop there.

Once we had clarity on their four strategic priorities, we needed to find a way to build upon what we’d done. To ensure that the work didn’t just start and stop with the planning committee, everyone needed to be involved.

So, our next step was to work with every firm associate to create their own personalized, strategic marketing plan that supported the firm’s plan and contained realistic, achievable strategies for them to execute individually.

By doing this, we tied a bow around business development coaching and marketing, giving those associates the opportunity to learn how to:

Plan their own marketing,
Work collaboratively,
Create plans that worked for themselves  – AND supported the firm’s overall goals.

After the plans were made, we stayed in touch with each associate to provide mentoring and support on the implementation. It was a highly successful initiative that got everyone involved in the firm’s marketing.

Have your associates ever had the opportunity to learn about marketing plans through this kind of hands-on experience? If not, let’s talk about how engaging them can benefit them and the firm.
